No onboard CPU/ROM - each of the 12 cartridges (13 counting the cancelled Barrage) contains its own processor (Intel 8021 or TI TMS1100, 64 bytes RAM, 1-2 KB ROM). 16x16 pixel LCD, 12-button keypad plus one paddle, piezo beeper. First-revision units needed two 9V batteries (8021 cartridges); later ones (TMS1100-only) shipped with one live battery holder plus a dead spare-battery compartment (mould reuse). Known failure modes: 'screen rot' (LCD seal failure), ESD damage to the cartridge's exposed CPU pins, and keypad-overlay tearing.
