Estimate: exact units produced unknown.The Sega Saturn is a home video game console developed by Sega and released on November 22, 1994, in Japan, May 11, 1995, in North America, and July 8, 1995, in Europe. Part of the fifth generation of video game consoles, it is the successor to the successful Genesis. The Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight processors. Its games are in CD-ROM format, including several ports of arcade games and original games. Development of the Saturn began in 1992, the same year Sega's groundbreaking 3D Model 1 arcade hardware debuted. The Saturn was designed around a new CPU from the Japanese electronics company Hitachi.

Official colour name 'mist grey' (Sega), commonly called white Saturn. Cost-reduced redesign announced at the 'Sega Saturn Power-Up Meeting '96 Spring' on 1996-03-09 (Famitsu No.380 via ja.wikipedia); warranty extended from 6 to 12 months. Early HST-3220 boards are almost the same as HST-3210; later cost-downs merged chips (two SH-2 into one package per Sega column 5) and the latest units lost compatibility with some software (ja.wikipedia). Round buttons; pad buttons changed from blue to grey/pink during production (pt.wikipedia, unsourced). From late 1997 the Segata Sanshiro campaign gave the 'Otanoshimi 3shiro! Disc' demo CD with console purchases (Sega official).
