Why
There’s no units produced with a source and not enough listings. We don’t make things up.The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive outside North America, is a 16-bit fourth generation home video game console developed and sold by Sega. It was Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Sega released it in October 1988 in Japan as the Mega Drive, and in August 1989 in North America as the Genesis. In 1990, it was distributed as the Mega Drive by Virgin Mastertronic in Europe, Sega Ozisoft in Australasia, and Tectoy in Brazil. In South Korea, it was distributed by Samsung Electronics as the Super Gam*Boy and later the Super Aladdin Boy.

Trademark Security System: checks for the string 'SEGA' in the cartridge and shows 'PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES LTD.' at boot (en.wikipedia, Sega v. Accolade section, which calls the edition 'Genesis III' - not to be confused with the 1998 Majesco Genesis 3). Sega Retro: some VA6 NA boards and VA6.5 PAL boards drop the unused rear EXT port; VA7 (USA) moves the sound/video chips into one ASIC (315-5487), changing audio output. 'High Definition Graphics' ring text disappears on later units (exact revision not verified).
Prices by market
We collect prices from marketplaces in Ukraine and Europe: once there are at least three listings a week, a median will show up here.
