sega.jp: Mega Drive + Mega-CD in one unit with karaoke function, two mic jacks, MIDI out, S-video, motorised top-loading tray, DAP modes GAME/EX.BASS/KARAOKE; 380 x 211 x 75 mm. Victor sold its version first (1992-04-01) with the CD-ROM 'WONDERMEGA COLLECTION' (4 games + 4 karaoke songs); Sega's version followed on 1992-04-24 without that disc. ja.wikipedia (Mega-CD article): Victor's unit went through consumer-electronics channels and Sega's through toy channels; price competition led to only Victor continuing (unsourced). RG-M1 won a 1992 Good Design Award (g-mark.org). Needs a paid tray/lid swap by Victor to accept the 32X (ja.wikipedia).
