There’s no units produced with a source and not enough listings. We don’t make things up.Sony produced several models of the PlayStation (PS1) video game console from 1994 to 2006. Most revisions of the PlayStation addressed known hardware issues or aimed to lower manufacturing costs and time. External changes were minor, for example, the removal of external I/O ports, until the introduction of the miniaturised "PS one" console revision. The final digit in the model number represents the region code of the console. Model numbers ending in '0' (e.g. SCPH-xxx0) were released in Japan (NTSC-J). Models ending in '1' denote North America (NTSC-U/C). Models ending in '2' signify PAL regions including Europe and Australia. Finally, '3' indicates Asia outside of Japan.

First major consolidation: model numbers synchronised worldwide from this series onward. CD drive relocated away from the PSU with digital servo focus/tracking (replacing manual gain/bias calibration); A/V direct-out and RFU power connector removed from SCPH-5501 onward; PCB reduced in size; only revision with a bottom cover under the drive. SCPH-5552 (PAL) ships with two controllers, based on SCPH-5502. Release dates here are the BIOS-build dates from the en Wikipedia comparison table, used as a proxy since exact retail dates per region are not separately confirmed.
