The PlayStation (PS1) is a home console from Sony Computer Entertainment, released in Japan on 3 December 1994 and in North America on 9 September 1995. Until 2006 Sony made several revisions of it, mostly to fix hardware issues and cut costs.

The catalog follows the revisions by model number: SCPH-1000 (the Japanese launch model), SCPH-1001 and SCPH-1002 for North America and PAL, then the SCPH-3000, 5000, 5500, 7000, 7500 and 9000 series and the smaller PS one (SCPH-100 series, 2000). Special items include the Net Yaroze hobbyist console (1996) and the midnight-blue 10 Million Model (SCPH-7000W), which plays discs from any region through its own BIOS. Accessories range from the analog DualShock to the Multitap and the Japan-only PocketStation.

PlayStation discs are tied to a region, so match console and games; the 10 Million Model is the exception. A standard 128 KB memory card offers 15 usable save blocks.
