i.LINK port removed (present on all prior generations); DVD remote receiver built in; internal DVD player gained progressive-scan output; PSU circuit revised for quieter, delayed-start fan. New packaging listed DVD+-R/RW compatibility for the first time. SCPH-55000 (Dec 2003 GT/GU bundles) is functionally identical to the SCPH-50000 NB revision and is treated here as sharing this model entry, with the bundles catalogued in variants.json. Standard colour Charcoal Black at launch, later replaced as the base colour by Midnight Black (see the SCPH-50000 NB variant).
