Description

The SCPH-50000 is a PlayStation 2 revision that went on sale in Japan on 15 May 2003 at 25,000 yen excluding tax. It dropped the i.LINK port, built in an infrared receiver for the remote, added progressive scan to the DVD player and cut fan noise by 75%. From 13 November 2003 the price fell to 19,800 yen and translucent Midnight Black became the standard colour.

Details from sources

i.LINK port removed (present on all prior generations); DVD remote receiver built in; internal DVD player gained progressive-scan output; PSU circuit revised for quieter, delayed-start fan. New packaging listed DVD+-R/RW compatibility for the first time. SCPH-55000 (Dec 2003 GT/GU bundles) is functionally identical to the SCPH-50000 NB revision and is treated here as sharing this model entry, with the bundles catalogued in variants.json. Standard colour Charcoal Black at launch, later replaced as the base colour by Midnight Black (see the SCPH-50000 NB variant).
