Nintendo · 24 models · 215 variants · 168 accessories · 3,068 games

The Family Computer, or Famicom, was Nintendo's 8-bit home console, released in Japan on 15 July 1983. A redesigned version was sold abroad as the Nintendo Entertainment System, reaching North America on 18 October 1985. Together they make up the third generation of home consoles.

Our catalog covers the hardware in detail: the earliest Famicoms (HVC-001) with square rubber A/B buttons and the later revision with round plastic ones, Sharp's Twin Famicom and Famicom Titler, the Disk System add-on (HVC-022) with its RAM Adapter, the top-loading NES-101 and the 1993 AV Famicom (HVC-101). The section starts with the Color TV-Game machines of 1977 and runs up to the mini consoles of 2016.

When buying, keep in mind that Famicom and NES cartridges are physically different and do not fit each other's console without an adapter. The front-loading NES-001 contains the 10NES lockout chip.
